Private Advance Screening of Sonic the Hedgehog celebrates the Region’s film industry, and new film tourism partnership agreement between Tourism Vancouver Island and INFilm.

On the evening of February 12th, two days before the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie was scheduled to speed into theatres, Nanaimo played host to a special advance screening of the #FilmedonVancouverIsland production.

Tourism Vancouver Island (TVI), in partnership with the Vancouver Island North Film Commission (INFilm) and Paramount Pictures, hosted the private-screening which saw over 250 people attend!

Invitees included representatives from First Nations, municipalities, and both the Cowichan Valley and Nanaimo Regional Districts; local background actors and crew who worked on the film; tourism, business, and film stakeholders; and youth.  The Mayor of ‘Green Hills’ himself joined us for the screening (see first photo below: Mayor of Ladysmith, Aaron Stone, poses with TVI’s Karen Bannister).

Attendees were treated to popcorn, movie posters and a sneak peek at the latest film to set Vancouver Island as its stage. At the event, TVI and INFilm also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize their partnership and commitment to promote and develop film tourism across Vancouver Island.

The MOU was signed by Karen Bannister, Director of Destination Marketing for TVI, and Joan Miller, Film Commissioner for INFilm, at Landmark Cinemas on Wednesday evening just before the Sonic the Hedgehog screening began. Through the agreement, TVI and INFilm will build on the current relationship for a collaborative partnership in the interest of achieving mutually beneficial outcomes for the film and tourism industries and the local economy, through the promotion of destination through film, and the development of film tourism products.
